Takims Holidays

Tanzania

Ever since 1950 when Takims Holidays first opened its doors to travel and tourism on the island of Zanzibar, innovation was at the forefront of what they did. The company represented the first European airlines, flying charters to and from the island, a feat unheard of in those days. Today as a third-generation family business, with offices in both Arusha and Dar es Salaam, they are uniquely positioned as an independent luxury DMC with several accreditations.

The company is impartial, and unaffiliated with any hotel chain or property. The only focus of Trakims Holidays is on working with their B2B partners around the world to provide tailor-made itineraries, with the ability to mix and match from a wide array of luxury properties, always keeping the clients’ interest at the forefront. They maintain one of the newest fleets of 4x4 Cruisers in the industry, with specific emphasis on the small details that take the client experience from great to outstanding. Their itineraries are experience focused with the priorities being on excellent product knowledge and a high emphasis on guide training.

It was Akber Takim, the grandfather of the current directors of the company, who founded the very first travel agency on the island of Zanzibar in 1950 called 'Takim Travel Services'. Legend has it that one day, Akber Takim was informed of a delayed flight arriving in Zanzibar to pick up tourists. In those days there were no night landing facilities and no lights at Zanzibar airport. In order to avoid further delays, Akber, always the pioneer, called all his friends on the island to bring their cars and formed the landing strip using the beams of their cars as landing lights. The plane landed safely, making this the first night landing at Zanzibar airport in history!
Now, three generations on, Takims Holidays continues to be a family business and is the oldest family-run safari company in the country. 75 year later, the grandchildren of Akbar and current directors of this incredible DMC, continue the pioneer spirit of their grandfather and offer unforgettable experiences in all of Tanzania.

One of the most romantic destinations that Tanzania has to offer may well be Zanzibar. It is definitely on of the most well known. But the country has some other islands that are also incredible destinations.
Even though the name might be slightly misleading, Mafia Island is the quintessential scuba divers retreat. With only a minimal number of tourist lodges on the island, it is the ultimate island retreat for beach lovers, diving enthusiasts and big game fishermen alike who are all looking for experiences off the beaten track.
Pemba Island is a serene, lush, and largely undeveloped tourist destination offering world-class diving and snorkeling, pristine coral reefs, lush forests and a peaceful atmosphere that contrasts with busier Zanzibar. Visitors can explore hidden lagoons and mangrove swamps, visit archaeological sites, encounter unique wildlife and experience the island's rich cultural heritage.
