… going 20 times!“ St. Moritz, 14th December 2018. When extravagantly decorated Christmas trees sparkle under the hammer on 22nd December in Badrutt’s Palace Hotel’s Le Restaurant, the time has come for another shower of bids at the 20th Christmas Tree Auction. The glamorous event has become an established St. Moritz Christmas tradition with all proceeds going to local charities.
For the past two decades Badrutt’s Palace Hotel has dedicated every year a whole winter evening to a line-up of evergreen fir trees, sparkling in all their ornate festive glory. Several luxury brands are once again taking part in this lovely event to become the proud sponsors of one of the 16 Christmas trees, decorating their branches with precious objects worth many thousands of Swiss Francs and presenting their tree to the highest bidder together with an exclusive gift.
With proceeds in the previous year reaching an incredible CHF 91,000 to be presented to local charities, Badrutt’s Palace Hotel and its partners – including Cartier, Gübelin, Hauser & Wirth, Breitling, Ogier, Bottega Veneta, Moncler, Le Lutetia Paris and Il Sereno Lago Di Como – naturally decided to continue this success with the 20th edition of the traditional hotel’s glamorous event.
“It is an important occasion for us to support local community projects in the Engadin,” explains Richard Leuenberger, Managing Director of Badrutt’s Palace Hotel. “Without their amazing work, families, children and people with disabilities would not be able to enjoy all that this amazing region has to offer. It is up to all of us to support these charities to enable them to continue realising their plans and ideas in the future.”
On 22nd December 2018 the evening begins with a welcome cocktail in Le Restaurant at 7.30pm when the ornate trees can be viewed. The Gala Dinner follows at 8.30pm with the auction led by a top auctioneer from Christie’s London. The proceeds of the 20th Christmas Tree Auction will go to the Blindenschule St. Moritz (St Moritz School for the Blind), the KiBE organisation (Assistance for Children in the Upper Engadin, the Avegnir association (Friends of cancer and long term patients) and the Ufficina association (Assisted living for people with mental and physical disabilities).
